Hiro's New Friend

A couple weeks ago, my friend brought over her shiba puppy, Goma. When Goma first came over, I brought Hiro outside to meet her. Hiro was not happy. He lunged towards her a few times. I suggested that we go for a walk. Goma was excited to meet Hiro and kept on following him. After a few minutes, we brought them inside the house. They played really well together! Au Revoir Hiro

This Sunday I am leaving for Paris. Therefore I will be leaving Hiro here. It will only be a week. Hopefully he won't notice that I'm gone. I'm going to miss him so much! I remember a few months ago I had to leave him for 3 days. I teared up before I said goodbye.

Hiro will be in good hands. My parents are watching him for me. Good thing he still gets to stay in his comfy home.

New Toy

This past weekend, I stopped by my cousin's house to drop off a crate. She is getting a puppy on Friday. A Portuguese Water Dog. She said that her coworker got her some puppy toys but didn't want her kids to mistake them as their own toys because they're stuffed. She said she's only going to buy rubber toys for the dog. Below is a picture of one of the toys. Let me tell you...Hiro LOVES this toy! I recommend everyone get one for their dog. It squeaks AND has a rattle in the tail. Hiro can play with this thing for at least 15 minutes. I'll have to post a video of him playing with it.

Off Leash

For the past few weeks now, I've been letting Hiro run around an open field behind my townhouse. He loves being able to run freely. I know Shibas should never be off leash, but so far I haven't had any issues. I always make sure that I bring plenty of treats with me when it's time to go back home.

When spring time comes and the groundhogs are out, I don't think I'll be able to let him roam free. There was one time awhile back when Hiro first saw a groundhog. He didn't chase after it. He slowly approached it and ran away after the groundhog made a "yelping" noise.

I'll have to take a video of Hiro enjoying his freedom. Are you able to let your Shibas off leash outside of the dog park?

New Tricks

I recently taught Hiro how to "speak". I thought it was hard to teach him, but actually it was really easy! He's a fast learner.

New Friends

This past Sunday I took Hiro to the Cabin John dog park so he can play with his fellow Shibas. I've never seen so many Shiba Inus at a meetup before. It was awesome!! Here's a video of Hiro being chased by Phelan (Shiba) and Katie (Welsh Terrier). Hiro met Katie for the first time a couple weeks ago at Cabin John.

Don't Mess With My Turf

During the day when there's no one to watch Hiro, he's in his pen. Hiro knows to go in when it's time for bed. He knows when I'm heading out so he'll go inside his pen. This past weekend, I took Hiro to New Jersey. I had to break down his pen. Boy! Was Hiro not happy about it. He kept pouting at me and nibbling my feet. He didn't put too much pressure but I can tell he was upset! I thought it was kinda funny at the same time. Ahhh..the Shiba scream. Funny when I was setting the pen up, he also did the same exact thing. Has your Shiba done anything similar?

Hiro Meets Pika

A friend of my recently got a Shikoku puppy. His name is Pika. His owner's last name is Chu so his full name will be Pika Chu. HA! For those of you who don't know what a Shikoku is, they're related to the Shiba Inu. They will weigh about 50 lbs. This is my first time meeting a Shikoku. Pika is 12 weeks old. He is about 2/3 the size of Hiro already! Lemme tell you, this dog is very vocal! At first, he kept growling and barking at Hiro. I guess this breed can be a little territorial. We went on a short walk together and then we had them play in the backyard after they got acquainted. We eventually realized that Pika wasn't aggressive towards Hiro, he's just super vocal!

Hiro's Birthday Party

Last Monday was Hiro's 1st birthday. He had a party at Unleashed by Petco. 3 of his friends came too! Here's a video of him playing with Abbey.

Birthday Party

Hiro will be 1 year old on October 17th. I've planned a Pet Party for him this coming Sunday at Unleashed (by Petco). The best part of it is that it's free!! So I ordered a Puppy Cake for him. The cost wasn't too bad. 9.99. It feeds 2-4 dogs. So far 3 other dogs have RSVP'd. I will post videos and pics! =)

Fish Skin

I frequently shop at Bark in the Kentlands. I remember they used to sell Dried Fish skin. They've been sold out for awhile. Yesterday I went to Bark and they actually had them! I bought two "sticks" of them. When I got home I realized they charged me for 3. I was a little peeved. I call them and they said that I can go back and they well refund me. Here is a video of Hiro munching on his fish skin. =D

Bad Dog!!

Couple days ago my dad called me and told me that Hiro chewed through his harness! This is the second harness (EzyDog) that I've gotten him. The first one he outgrew and I thought he'll just the second one for at least awhile. When I'm not at home I usually keep the harness on him because my dad doesn't know how to put the harness on him. Maybe I'll have to show my dad next time. Harnesses are expensive! His EzyDog harness was $20. I have a coupon for Unleashed by Petco. I think I'll go there after work today and see what they have. =)

Poor Baby Bunny!

Last night while walking Hiro, we encountered a cute baby bunny! It was in a flower bed. At first I thought it was dead because it wasn't moving. Hiro went up and started sniffing it. It was very slow! I was surprised that it didn't even move when Hiro's nose was right up against it's body. The bunny took one hop and Hiro grabbed it with his mouth and shook. I heard the bunny squeak and Hiro dropped it. I thought the bunny was okay because it started hopping away. But after talking to neighbors later on that evening, they said that they saw a dead baby bunny. I saw the evidence. I felt so bad!!!!! =( My neighbors told me that there's plenty more where it came from, but I was very unhappy.

Hiro's Wobbler

Hiro haven't used his wobbler in awhile so I decided to put some treats in it for him. =)

Tug-a-Jug

A co-worker of mine got this for Hiro last December when he was just a mere pup. He was too young at the time so I put it away. I recently took it out and put some treats inside. Boy, this is a hard treat dispenser. Do you own this for your Shiba? If so, are they able to get the treats out?

First Raw Bone Marrow

This past weekend I picked up a pack of Primal's Raw Bone Marrow since I had a $3 coupon. I wondered how dogs are able to chew through such thick bone. Hiro only ate the marrow part. He loved it! Here's a couple videos of him enjoying his bone!

While I was at Nags Head, I noticed a petstore near by. I went in and noticed that they had a lot of dog all natural cookies/biscuits for sale. I picked some up hoping Hiro would enjoy here. He seems to like em! Here's the proof! Sorry if it's a lil blurry.

Hiro at the Dunes

This week we took Hiro with us to Nags Head, NC. He loves it! Here is a video of him digging in the sand dunes.
